Music Altered Perception
Let’s say I’m Canadian.
More specifically, let’s say that I hail from Quebec.
My altered perception might be that I think Celine Dion, who was born and raised in Charlemagne, Quebec is the best singer in the world, despite the fact that:
1. she’s clearly not,
2. she herself has already claimed to be the greatest singer in the world – not to mention all that self-inflicted chest thumping she does on stage – so any claim that simple ‘ole me could make to that effect is just plain diluted (deluded), and
3. hasn’t Kanye West claimed that he’s the greatest singer in the world? Is there room for two (such big egos)? Come to think of it, I’ve never actually seen Celine and Kanye at the same awards ceremony at the same time, so who knows, maybe they’re one and the same and his/her claims are actually true.
Somehow I doubt it though. Unless he/she has a vocal range that Mariah Carey would envy.
Let’s stick with the Canadian thing, ‘eh? Out of pure nationalistic pride, I may state that Avril Lavigne has the voice of an angel, whereas any discerning music fan might actually correct me and say that in reality Avril’s voice is one of the most gratingly-annoying voices to grace the Billboards. They may state (quite correctly, by the way) that Avril’s vocal range is so limited, she makes Serge Gainsbourg’s range seem limitless.
All I can say is that Celine Dion / Kanye West and Avril Lavigne should all bow down and thank the Altered Perception gods for their respective careers.
