Mason Proffit
Well I did happen to finally find the official Mason Proffit website yesterday for anybody interested. December 14, 2004
I Really Like Google
Sometimes it doesn't take much to excite me, but this article definitely did. Just look at the headline of this article: U-M's entire library to be put on Google You go Google! A whole library at our fingertips. Wow! In a similar vein I've been watching ebook readers for weeks. Just waiting for the ONE that will trip my trigger. I don't want alot, really. But I want it to handle all formats, of course it will have to hold a ton of books, be about the size of a paperback novel, only thinner, weigh less and have phenomenal storage capacity, easy readability, great battery life and sync with my computer. Some companies are getting very close. But not quite yet. Now I already have a Sony Clie TH55 that I've already purchased quite a few books and do use it alot. But there is something about having every book I ever wanted, I could ever read, text books, magazines....you name it, in my purse with me at all times. It just really trips my trigger. I have no qualms whatsoever about giving up my stacks of books sitting here around the house. I have the stacks of "to read", "have read must pass on", "have read want to read again", "have read must save just in case". Now don't get me wrong here, I'll never give them all up...but I constantly think how much easier moving would be. Anyway Sony is getting close with it's Librie but it has a ways to go. This is an old article and it hasn't been released in the USA and from what I can tell what is currently available as far as ebooks they might as well not release it here. So c'mon Sony, let's get cracking. Anybody...c'mon, let's get this show on the road. September 19, 2004
It Was Worth It
I bought the DVD "The Passion of The Christ" two weekends ago and had planned on watching it this weekend. Today was "the" day. I'm not one of these long winded movie critics, in fact I can sum it up in one word: Wow. Of course this word was not screamed out, but in a very low...almost whisper with tears in my eyes and my heart still has this weird ache. I would recommend to anyone, to all, to take two hours out of your busy schedules and watch this movie. Enough said. January 10, 2004
T3
I watched Arnold in Terminator 3 today. Tons of cars being smashed up, blood, gore, violence. Arnold naked. Wow, I loved it. The box set available for all 3 yet? Love Story with a Kink
Well I watched The Secretary this week on the advice of Death. How could I resist a review like this: "So in fact the movie turned out to be a love story with a fucked up twist. And the moral of the story is that two uber freaks can find each other and fall in love in this modern world." I thought the movie was kinky and funny. Amazon review says it walks a fine line and indeed it does. James Spader as the neurotic dominant type only adds to the charisma of the whole movie, but I've been a fan of James Spader since White Palace. If you enjoy things a little on the edge, check it out. December 14, 2003
Beliefs
I started reading The Da Vinci Code around Thanksgiving, right after I read Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Well shortly into it, I decided maybe this is just a little too much of dear Dan for a bit, so I put it down. Well yesterday I got back into it. I still can't say I like it, but this whole thing about a woman being in the Last Supper painting and Mary Magdalene being married to Jesus definitely has rattled the whole belief system. I'm sure the atheists are smiling at that one. I do know the Bible, but I admit to total ignorance on "lost gospels". Such as the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, which I did read today. Not much there, too many "missing chapters". I guess this is something I'm going to have to search out on my own. Again. Thanks Dan Brown, I really didn't need this. October 24, 2003
Eugene Pratt
I received a request from someone who dropped by my site. He's been searching for the lyrics from Mason Proffit's "Eugene Pratt". If anyone knows of some obscure site that might have it let me know. It's off the album "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream". I could sing it to him...but he probably wouldn't like that. I was born and raised on the Oklahoma plains. I tried to keep my shoes shined, tried to keep a good name. But way over town, lived a boy named Eugene Pratt. We weren't allowed to talk to him , say "hi" and that was that. That's just the way it was. That's just the way it is. ...or something damn close to that, it's been about 20 years since I've heard it. October 19, 2003
Dreamcatcher
Is a good movie...it had the general outline of the book and definitely the same characters. Stephen King always has so much filler stuff that 90% of the book was left out but the highlights got hit. The ending did not follow the book...but that's Hollywood. I'm glad I bought the DVD, we all know how UFO's, aliens, shit weasels and Morgan Freeman can captivate an audience. Well some of us do. Lola
I heard Lola today by the Kinks. I hadn't heard it for quite sometime. I still like that song. When that song came out I had no clue what they were talking about. My friends didn't either...so I wasn't the only naive one. It probably took me 5 more years to figure it out. Damn, times have changed. September 27, 2003
Mason Proffit
One of my favorite bands of all time was a little known band called Mason Proffit. I really didn't discover them until about the time they were disbanding. I did get to see John and Terry Talbot in concert around '75. They played a few of their old stuff, but mostly new. It was good, but I was disappointed. Here is a listing of their recordings. I can't find alot about them on the net but did find some old reviews here , apparently a couple of other people feel the same way I did. I have all of there stuff on LP's, lot a good it does me since I don't have a turn table..but I'm not giving them up. I see a couple of them with a current bid on Amazon of $35. Anyway..if you ever get a chance, listen to Eugene Pratt and Two Hangmen. September 22, 2003
Demons, Rats and Cliffs
I really don't have anything boring, anything exciting...to say. Just nothing. It rained all day today, and all I wanted to do all day long was curl up with a book. Well this is the book:
Of course all that satanist shit gives me nightmares. Now there is a topic, nightmares. I have 4 things that I have nightmares about. A really good whopper will have all 4. Demons, rats, cliffs...and strange big houses. Actually I haven't had any demon or rat nightmares for over a year. Now the driving off a cliff thing...really has to go. But I'll take that nightmare any day over the demon ones. Ok, now I'm going to shut up or I'll be sleeping with the lights on. September 20, 2003
Jimi Hendrix
In one of my commutes to and from work this week I heard on the radio that September 18 was the anniversary of Jimi Hendrix's death. I'm not sure where he ended up on the Rolling Stone's list of greatest guitar players. Sure, I could do some research but he's #1 on my list that's all that matters. He was THE Man. I played the piano for years, I love piano music, pretty isn't it? Guitars speak, they touch, they make love, it can make you sad, make you happy, in fact it touches my soul. Before I was even a teen I found Jimi. Jimi scared me as much as he fascinated me, literally he did. I should of been craving to hear the Monkeys like my friends. No, Jimi opened a world for a pre-teen that was dark, exciting and very different. I think it scared my mother more. The Official Jimi Hendrix Website August 03, 2003
Shaman
I recently I am addicted to Sideways by Citizen Cope I can not get enough of that song. I am such a sucker for blues. Santana's guitar playing on that literally makes love to you. It is a great CD. I will be buying the CD. August 01, 2003
RIAA and Copy Rights
This article states two thirds of adult music downloaders don't care about copyrights. Now if I'm paying $15 for a CD it's my business what I do with that CD. Now if you don't want me sharing that music, don't make me pay for it. Charge me for the price of burning the CD and the cheap plastic case and I won't share. What's that 2 bucks? Now if I buy something isn't it not mine to do with as I choose? Next thing you know I'll get sued for passing my paperback books on. July 27, 2003
Last Day
Well I've pretty much spent my last day reading a damn book I can't put down. Mortal Fear by Greg Isles. I will finish this dang thing before I even think about getting in a bed tonight. I can not believe I really have to go back to work tomorrow. It's all a state of mind right? Uh huh. I should of been born a princess. July 25, 2003
The Passion
I just checked out the movie trailer for Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion". July 20, 2003
Just Chillin
Well I've pretty much shot this day doing nothing. Well...not quite true. I bought the DVD Rose Red a couple of months ago, then heard it wasn't very good. So I sorta stuck it on the DVD shelf. Today I decided to watch it and I'm about half way through. Actually I think it's pretty good. Ever check out this site? July 11, 2003
J.J. Cale
Once again Dean has prompted a few memories with his question for today. If we've heard an exquisitely beautiful song that no one else we know has ever heard. It brought back a great memory. Centuries ago I went to a 3 day blue-grass festival in Brownsville, NE with a few friends. We loaded up the car with a tent, a case of beer, not enough ice and a few candy bars. When we arrived at the festival as many were we set up the tent and proceeded to party to some great music. Although it was publicized as blue-grass you could find anything to suit your taste. What we found out rapidly that the bands playing music on the stage didn't hold a candle to what was being played in the camp grounds. By the next day the beer and the candy bars were gone, so we decided to go into town for of course more beer, ice and food. Well...Brownsville is so small it's hard to find on a map. The little family one room grocery store had been over run with people with the same idea we had. We ended up with 2 cans of Spam and a loaf of bread. Ugh. Well by that night the Spam tasted damn good roasted over a camp fire. We crashed early that night...too much partying, Spam, and mooching warm beer. About 2am I woke up to the most beautiful music I've ever heard. The voice was rough, the guitar music was heavenly. I had to find who was making that sound. I followed the music, literally tripping over people who had just put their sleeping bags anywhere to sleep. I finally came upon a campfire with one thin cowboy leaning back against a tree singing what I later asked was "Magnolia". It seems others shared my admiration of this man. As he continued to play a banjo player came along and joined in...shortly thereafter a harmonica player. Before this man ended his song there had to be 25 people standing around him and his campfire. When he ended the applause was deafening. Damn near woke the whole place up. J.J. Cale wrote that beautiful song but I never found that out til years later. I never forgot that night, that cowboy or that song. About 10 years later I finally asked the right person who led me to who sang and wrote Magnolia. I bought the cassette tape at that time. Years later I finally seen a picture of J.J....now I could be wrong, I have been many times before, but I will always believe that cowboy was J.J. Makes me feel damn good to think it was. Barry White
Barry is gone. I never cared for his music, but I could listen to him talk all night long. The poor guy has been in the hospital since last September. Proves my point it's not death we have to fear...it's dying. June 22, 2003
A Few Good Men
I just caught the last 15 minutes of A Few Good Men and Jack Nichoson's performance. I often forget about his short speech at the end leading up to admitting he ordered the code red. I think his performance in this scene is the most powerful performance I've ever witnessed. I do not know if he won an Occar for that performance but it would of been a damn crime if he didn't. Scarey Movies
I'm always on the hunt for a scarey movie. I definitely was more impressionable years ago then I am now. For me the movie with the biggest impact was The Exorcist. That movie scared the shit out of me and if I think about it, it still does. It wasn't so much anything in the movie but that's when I was introduced to even the concept of "possession". I watch every scarey movie that I hear about and I'm still waiting - weirdly enough - to find a new thrill. Maybe Bhoot is the one. I guess I'll have to wait for the Americanized version. Illegal Downloading
I would think Orrin Hatch obviously has too much free time if he's that worried about this. We still have Americans being killed on foreign soil and he's worried about his damn royalties. Isn't there more important things to worry about like banning smoking, driving with cell phones, screwing the elderly out of health benefits? Come on Hatch...put those creative thinking skills to work. |
