Soldiers and Suicide

I can not get this article out of my mind today, so I might as well post about it. I don't know why I was stunned to hear about GI's committing suicide, but I was. I guess if someone were to have a reason to contemplate suicide being in the middle of a war would make one despondent enough. Never knowing when your enemies will strike. Loved ones so far away and separated from all you know. Literal hell on earth.

I'm not sure if there is a worse feeling on this earth then to realize another human being is so sad and feeling life is so hopeless that suicide is their only option. I hate to see that kind of pain in someone's eyes, and I pray that I never miss it. Then I pray for the right words. I pray for our soldiers.

My friends husband is getting ready to go to Iraq for 1 year. That is a heart wrenching story that I definately will not share with her. You are right we should all say a prayer for all soldiers who are putting their lives on the line so that we can have freedom.

You can kill yourself with a bottle of Tylenol?

Huh.

It is sad though.

Tylenol is deadly beyond belief. You can wake up in the morning after an overdose and feel fine, and only (a little) later do you find that your liver has been destroyed, and you then die a horrible death. Suicide is always sad, but what I hate the worst of all is when someone thinks they're making a "cry for help" with what they think is harmless, Tylenol, and then they and everyone else pay the price. That said, Tylenol is a great drug in therapeutic doses.

Military mental health issues are yet another whole thing. I can't believe the VA hospitals aren't getting funded better!

I agree with Oscar. As a veteran of Gulf 1, the knowledge that the VA does what it can with so little is a testament to the people at the VA.
