Male Shortage
Well this isn't looking good for the home team: In national data recently released by the Census Bureau, of the more than 96 million singles age 15 and over, women outnumber men by a ratio of 100 to 86. Now this is news that just sucks. Polygamists should love those statistics. According to the U.S. Census Bureau Alaska is the place to be if you are a single female: The U.S. Census Bureau has confirmed what many bachelor-hunters have known for years. Alaska, where single men outnumber single women by a ratio of 114 to 100, is a good place to find a guy. No that's not why I've always wanted to go there. Seems like just a little too much work for someone to kill the spiders and take out the garbage. Comments
Implicit in your statements is that being single is a bad thing ... s'pose you're probably right ... Posted by: Oscar at November 6, 2003 10:33 AM'Tis better to be alone than to wish you were. Posted by: robin at November 6, 2003 05:26 PMIf the men outnumber the women 114 to 100 in Alaska, that means that some states have an even worse ration than 86 men to 100 women. Wouldn't you also think there would be more men in Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas and Minnesota? It would be interesting to see what the census has to say state by state. Of course, Robin has a good point, so perhaps the entire issue is moot. Posted by: Buffy at November 6, 2003 06:50 PMAnd yet there seems to be a severe shortage of Tiger hunters? Hmmm, must be my looks! Aren't stripes in this year? Posted by: Tiger at November 6, 2003 08:39 PMYou'd think with odds of 100 to 86 that I'd have someone to go dancing with on Friday night, but it still hasn't happened! ;) As far as whether it is better to be single or not, there is a lot of data that suggests married men generally speaking live longer than single men. Of course, that doesn't take into account the "quality of life" issue. Posted by: andrew at November 7, 2003 07:10 AMGarbage and spiders only? what about opening tight pickle jars and plungering the toilet? Or am I exceptionally talemnted?
