Looks like we have our 10th solar flare heading our way in the last week or so. This one according to scientists could be the biggest one yet.

According to Space.com:

Other scientists have indicated the flare may indeed be an X20 or stronger. Only two X20 events have ever been recorded, one in 2001 that was not Earth-directed and had little effect, and another in 1989.

I can't help but wonder what the affects from solar flares have on humans, so I decided to do a quick search and actually did find a few things. This one states:

...that 80% of the most significant historical events on earth occurs at the period of maximum sunspot activity. Just to give some examples, the American Civil War occurred around 1858-1861, the World War I in 1916-1918, and 1967-1969 was the period of the height of the Vietnam War, the years around which sunspot activity was at its maximum.

Then from the Space Environmental Center has a brief article about Space Weather. But down at the very bottom of the article there is this gem:

There is a growing body of evidence that changes in the geomagnetic field affect biological systems. Studies indicate that physically stressed human biological systems may respond to fluctuations in the geomagnetic field.

There seems to be a lot of indications out there that many studies are being done on the affects of solar flares but if they've found some answers they aren't really sharing alot. Interesting though.
