On My Christmas NEED List
I have to have this for Christmas! When I read about this in the Detroit News this morning, I was so excited I could of peed my pants. Could of..ok? Just the headline alone was enough to make me sit up and take notice: Gadget may wreak traffic havoc. Three of my favorite words in the same sentence: Gadget. Wreak. Havoc. Let me tell you I was hooked. Then the next line: Oh Dear God YES! In-car device lets drivers change stoplights At that point I lost about 15 minutes of time as I traveled the streets of Detroit in my mind wreaking havoc with a gadget and never stopping at a red light again. I imagined what a goddess must feel like with all that power held in her hand. I gotta, gotta, gotta get me one of those.

These kinds of things have been around for years, but I still want one. A while back, there was a device that would change the signals based on the strobe frequency of emergency vehicles. The device would register the strobes and turn the lights. Someone bought a 5 Dollar storbe unit and added a pot so he could tweak the frequency, and whala. Instant light changer. The first IR emmitter hack I heard about was years ago with a Mucipal bus line. The Express line had an IR device similar to that above. Funny thing was that you could take a learning IR remote and point it at the bus and "learn" the signal. People were pointing TV remotes at lights and changing them. I think they changed the frequencies since then. Posted by: Doc at October 26, 2003 07:16 PMI'd be happy with just a radar/laser detector. And maybe a GPS. That light switcher would be really handy on a motorcycle which usually isn't heavy enough to trigger the weight-sensor on the "smart" lights. Posted by: Erica at October 26, 2003 09:55 PM
