Labor Day
It's 58 degrees out and raining. Since I plan on doing nothing today but chillin and laundry...this is working out great for me. I guess if you had a cookout planned for today...it sucks to be you. My youngest son was born 17 years ago today...on a Labor Day. So it's only fitting I chill today. We celebrated yesterday with a DQ cake. The first one I ever had...and the last one I will ever have. Yuck. He liked it, I guess that's all that counts. This is the first time ever he didn't have a " I WANT AND I NEED IT GOT TO HAVE IT" on his birthday list. Anyone that has or is a parent of a teenager knows at that point they have crossed the line into "almost adulthood" and it's secret code for "GIVE ME MONEY". So that's what he got along with a package of socks, Reese's peanut butter cups and Stridex medicated pads. He wasn't real thrilled with those things...but the check made him smile. At least he is actually still young and sweet enough to read the card before he whooped over the check. Included with the check was "spending money" that I would normally give him if I lived there for the emergency "new jeans" "shoes" "pizza" etc. He is rebuilding a 1981 Firebird ( I think it is) and I told him if he spent any of THAT money on the car - he would die a slow death. I bet he owns a new to him driveshaft with the birthday money by the end of this day and who knows what other greasy smelly parts that make him drool. OK..enough Iowa stuff for now. It's time to catch up on some blog reading. Comments
I spent three years in Iowa. It wasn't bad, really. My only regret from my time there was that I didn't participate in RAGBRAI, which looks like a lot of fun. Posted by: Sophorist at September 1, 2003 11:06 PM
