(knocking on wood) I haven't been inundated by spam but AOL is loosing about half of my mail. I've talked to people who wonder why I don't respond, and I can see mail intended for me appended to replies in my Yahoo Groups. Red Eagle Spirit's owner is dying for me to get a real ISP. And AOL is Sooooo proud of their campaign to ban spam!

Actually, that might not be regular old spam. The SoBig virus has been running rampant in the past week or so, and it sends a lot of spoofed email in order to replicate on other machines. Perhaps you are seeing the "wake" of system administrator messages being generated by the bogus SoBig emails?
