Big Brother is Nosey aka Patriot Act
I was reading in the Detroit News this morning that the ACLU is filing a federal lawsuit attacking the Patriot Act in Detroit. Check it out. When it comes to the government and what they want, if they want something do we have any rights at all? Let me share with you my recent experience with the IRS. In May I received a letter from the IRS wanting proof that the dependent I am claiming (my 16yo son) exists I guess in the year 2001. Read all about it!Comments
I have long maintained that our income tax system is simply not compatible with the right to privacy, or with the 4th amendment for that matter. Having dealt with them myself, I've learned a thing or two about how they work, though. The best thing you could do, Dawn, is send them whatever you have handy and just not include whatever you don't have handy. Yeah, it's late. Just send it anyway, they probably won't apply the penalty. It still sucks. The IRS is a bunch of assholes. We really should tear it apart. But believe me, you should give them what they want in the meantime, their ability to make your life a living hell is almost without limits. Posted by: Dean Esmay at July 30, 2003 05:29 AM
