The Altered Perception

Posted by dissock on Jan-20-2010

What exactly is altered perception?

That’s the beauty of it all.

It’s whatever you want it or perceive it to be.

Here’s an example:

I love football. Anything football. Plant me in front of a computer with internet access, and the first thing that I’ll do is bet on football at an online sportsbook like Sportsbook.com, even if it’s baseball season and baseball betting odds and lines might be better! Why? Because it’s football and I live for the sport! The great thing about online sportsbooks is that I’ll always have the luxury of betting on various football events all year-long!

That’s altered perception.

Same deal with blackjack. I know I can trek to Caesars Palace (I live in Vegas, btw) and get my gambling fix anytime I want to. However, I choose to play blackjack online at spots like Cherry Red Casino and Go Casino. Why? My altered perception is such that I believe playing blackjack online is actually better than playing in land-based casinos. I received free, welcome bonus money to play with when I signed up at these spots (and we’re talking hundreds and even thousands of dollars), which is one solid reason. As well, I can play multiple hands of blackjack simultaneously. Those are just a few of the reasons why I prefer online gambling.

Altered perception, anyone?

Here’s another example: my girl’s absolutely obsessed with the idea of marriage and all of its iconic images, like the white dress and a diamond ring. Let’s just say I feel the pressure. Well, sometimes I wonder if the only reason why she’s pressuring me to marry her (after only 6 months of being together, mind you) lies in her altered perception of marriage, and not in my inherent qualities as husband material. I mean, come on, when you consider the number of marriages that fail, can you blame me for thinking that most people are operating on a level of altered perception when it comes to marriage?

Anyway, I digress.

Check out the other pages on this site for a more detailed look at altered perception. Some examples are lighthearted, others are as serious as a heart attack. But I try to make it fun.

Hope you enjoy…
